  1. Ann Burton writes this novel about Rahab, one of the lesser mentioned heroines of the Bible, as it might have happened.Rahab is the daughter of a rugseller, and her mother was a secret Israelite,Jezere Rahab secretly cherishes her mother s Judaism, that she taught her, together with her little sister, Tezi. But Rahab is driven from her home, by the evil stepmother, Helzbah, on false charges. She must try to survive on the merciless streets of Jericho, and must become a prostitute, in The House of [...]

  2. I was really surprised at what a great book this was It wasn t written to make Rahab look like a sweet church lady She was a real person in the Bible, a prostitute There were no soft frilly illistrations to describe her life The author did a great job describing her profession without being too revealing or leaving out important details These women lived hard lives When I read about the walls of Jehrico comming down I will never think of it the same way again I am fascinated too how God uses not [...]

  3. This was actually a very fast read and I found it very engaging, but I don t think it quite deserved than three stars I don t think the author s rendition was very plausible as the real story of Rahab, but as its own story it was very good.

  4. As it might have happened Rahab has been cast out of her father s home and must beg, steal, or sell her body to eat A harlot takes her in and makes her the heir of the house Things happen very fast and we finally see the end of Jericho Riha with the walls come tumbling down.

  5. Not what I expected probably will not read any of this series Not very biblical or historical, I don t think It has a few moments of interest, or I would not have finished it, I suppose And I did.

  7. This is a wonderful series taken from the Bible and fleshed out with historical details to make an interesting and compelling story Rahab is cast out of her family due to lies told by her stepmother Her father won t listen to his daughter and she is sent out with no money or future Starving and destitute, she attempts to steal some fruit from a tree growing in a yard She is caught and taken into a high class house of prostitution and under the wing of the owner This view into her life in such a [...]

  8. Ann Burton s story of Rahab was very interesting I love Biblical Fiction because it always compels me to go back and read the passages in the Bible that correspond to it I didn t have to do that with Rahab because I m very familiar with her story If you ve never heard of Rahab this is a good introduction to her Ann takes this opportunity to give her view of who Rahab was before she was a harlot and what led her to harlotry She allows the reader a glimpse into Rahab s humanity Her fears and short [...]

  9. Excellent background information about the time where the Israelites under leadership of Joshua, burned Jericho in the Old Testament days, this after walking around the walls with their religious leaders in front Rahab puts a new light on prostitution in them there days, where women help each other, but family members not so much.

  10. 3.5 stars Burton is a wonderful story teller, but she takes a little too much liberty with biblical history for my taste That said, this is a different version of the story of Rahab than any other I ve read and she weaves a well thought out tale that holds your interest Personally, Pearl in the Sand is my favorite Rahab novel by Tessa Afshar I also enjoyed Francine Rivers Unashamed.

  11. This was a good book but it broke my heart to read I am use to bad things happening to those who bring it on themselves but the whole book seemed to be just one bad thing after another for the characters you come to love in the book The ending also just kinda dumps you, leaving you to guess what might happen Some people like that but not me.

  12. This well written fictional version of the story of Rahab is a fascinating read Burton has once again researched the time period extensively and weaves the history and culture throughout the story line.

  13. Read this back when I was still in high school This up until now is one of my favorites The author delve into the history and the feel during Rahab s time and gave back story on how she helped the spies.

  14. I read this book so long ago, but it still sticks in my mind I may have to read it again I have been searching for this author for years and have finally found her I hope to read several by her.

  15. Very enjoyable Biblical Fiction read Strong female main character and satisfying plot There are four unrelated books in this series All are equally well written.

  16. Love this book They always make me go to the Bible and see how the story matches Even though it is fiction there is some real to it.

  17. To much ballot I would of liked about when she went with the semitis It was all about being a harlot and details I didn t enjoy This was not the book for me.
