  2. A good startThen somewhere in the middle the heroes work becomes the central theme Somewhere the dots were not connected Want to know on what happened to Norris and Georgia.

  3. Unrealistic and Unbearably OverratedEvery morning Norris sees his Goddess walk to the buss stop Has she noticed him Who would notice him, a bow tie wearing miniature car freak One morning, just as he sees his neighbouring beauty get out of her house, she falls on the pavement Immobilized by what seems a fit of social anxiety, he leaves her be and falls into a deep hole himself The next day, as he closes the metal gate of his front lawn behind him, he sees his love interest fall into a hole First [...]

  4. When you re reading a sweet, tender story of romance, you don t expect to be on pavements with holes in them, or at bus stops, or held in the routines of the morning s commute, and you certainly don t expect that setting to contribute to the story s charm That, however, is exactly what Tahlia Newland has achieved here There are just two characters, each with a self image that s far from flattering The girl thinks she has thunder thighs and an expanding waistline and yet she can t give up eating [...]

  5. A Hole in the Pavement by Tahlia Newland was originally published as part of her collection, A Matter of Perception I ll get back to you on a review of the collection as a whole because the quality of this story means I HAVE to read What makes it so good Well, the writing first It has an easy, assured quality that makes it a pleasure to read Then there is the fact that I ventured out of my comfortable reading rut to discover what Magic Realism , which is how Tahlia s writing is described, feels [...]

  6. A Hole in the Pavement is so sweetly romantic with a magical realism that readers can actually identify with, for no matter how superhuman the characters experiences might be, it s really a tale of the very human vulnerabilities within and interactions between us all Definitely one of my favorite stories in Newland sA Matter of Perceptionanthology.

  7. The Hole in the Pavement was probably my favourite story of A Matter of Perception Every morning Norris follows Georgia to the bus stop, a silent admirer without the courage to approach her in even the most benign of ways until Georgia falls and Norris overcomes his own doubts to reach out to her A clever mix of the metaphorical made literal I enjoyed the message of the story.

  8. I received this book free in return for an honest review.I really enjoyed this story It was very interesting to see the way Georgia and Norris fell into holes in the pavement when they felt their lives were awful and out of control then how the holes would disappear when they did something to alleviate their unhappiness It was a very interesting short story.

  9. This is my favourite story from the short story anthology, A Matter of Perception It s humourous, heartwarming and about a really sweet character called Norris that we can all relate to.
