I ve rarely approached a positive review with such trepidation Perhaps if I tell you that To Kill a Mockingbird is the only comparable book which comes to my mind, you ll understand why.While I loved simply reading the story and appreciated the genuine ring of young Galen s voice as he slid flailing helplessly somewhere from childhood to young adulthood, and the wonderfully quirky but equally realized Uncle Phat, I couldn t help but feel that there was to this fascinating novel.I suspect that V [...]

I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderfully readable story of a young man and his ne er do well Uncle who decide to take a road trip that will have profound consequences for both of them This coming of age story is a reminder of what many of us went through as adolescents the struggle to understand the adult world and finding the one person who focuses the lens for us This work is entertaining and, like Virginia Arthur s novel, Birdbrain filled with life lessons and insightful vignettes So many books [...]
