What an extraordinary writer Dahl was With both children s fiction and adult fiction he paid not the slightest heed to political correctness and his work demonstrates not a hint of squeamishness I wish I could be so fearless sometimes These stories had me glued to the page They were over so swiftly, I could have done with a few .
Fantastic Absolutely wonderful.
The first fable is about a physically ugly man who saves a beautiful princess from harm and who is granted the right by the king to take any woman in the kingdom he wishes The wise king foresees the inevitable conclusion and true love s path The second fable is much sinister involving another princess and king This princess is also beautiful but incredibly vain and uses her beauty to her own ends When she is given the chance of taking over the throne by poisoning her father, she takes the advic [...]

A fifteen minute read of two enjoyable stories.
Two Fables 1986 by Roald Dahl is a short book published in honor of Dahl s seventieth birthday, comprising two new stories, illustrated by Graham Dean The illustrations only the frontispiece is in color are modern and completely forgettable The first story, The Princess and the Poacher, is the longer and better of the two It concerns the young man Hengist, who is repulsively ugly to every woman but his mother His one positive trait is that he is a good poacher, despite the heavy penalty of being [...]
I was surprised to find a book by Roald Dahl sitting in the science fiction section of the library, and even surprised and sad that both fables were so short The first is rather dirty, as a young, ugly man is given a card from the king that allows him to ravish any maiden he desires one of Dahl s sexual fantasies The second is about a princess so beautiful men fawned and simpered They drooled and dribbled They crawled and toadied
I had to wonder why this book consisted of two very short adult fables I would not say these are for kids but I was taken with these two clever fables The illustrations were a perfect complement to the two tales I only wish there had been than just the two fables.
A couple of fairy tales, but not your typical ones They re a little twisted, and the second one is very dark They both have characters who both want very different things and get what they deserve in the end.
Dahl is one of my favorite authors Both fables are not for the faint of heart, both have good themes and it was hard for me to put this book down I read BFG in grade 6 and have always have had great respect for Dahl.
Popravd , tohle bylo osv uj c A taky p kn zneklid uj c.
Very quick and easy reads with the usual Roald Dahl wit.
These short stories were somewhat disturbing, mostly due to the accompanying illustrations, but I still enjoyed reading something from this author that wasn t written for children.
Did what it said on the tin.
Strange little fables about a lucky and very ugly man and the other about and very beautiful and unlucky girl.
Captivating read, though I didn t enjoy the sexist cisgender overtones.
Unnecessary.
Two really dark fables I m not really sure it s a kids book.
