The poetry s overblown and kind of amateurish, but this is a good story about the history of drugs in particular, the sections on tea, cacao, and coffee Pendell does a good job of fusing chemistry, political history, polemic, and social history into a clear narrative, even though its interrupted by some stuff about the Poison Path.
